SEO for small business — and the AI answers that now come first.
Ranking on Google still matters. It is no longer the only place a buyer looks: a growing share of them ask an assistant instead and never see a results page at all.
Ask what we’d fix firstWe work on both. It is included in every retainer tier rather than sold as an extra — and this site is the proof case, because everything we do for clients we do here first.
Three disciplines, one job.
- SEO. Titles, structure, internal links and pages built for what buyers actually type.
- GEO — generative engine optimisation. Being surfaced when an assistant searches on a user’s behalf.
- AEO — answer engine optimisation. Being the source it quotes, not just a link it found.
- The plumbing. Schema.org, llms.txt, clean canonicals, server-rendered content an engine can read.
It is not a ranked list.
- It fans out. One prompt becomes several ordinary web searches.
- It grounds. Follow-up searches check the candidates it found, including against your own site.
- It validates. Your claims are cross-checked elsewhere before you are recommended.
- So classic ranking still decides everything. Miss the fan-out and you are never a candidate.
Work you can check.
- An audit you keep. What is wrong, what it costs to fix, what it is worth fixing.
- The fixes, done. Not a list handed back for someone else to implement.
- The queries assistants run. Pulled from Bing’s grounding-query data, which almost nobody uses.
Two honest limits.
- A brand-new domain will not rank quickly whatever anyone promises. Expect months, not weeks.
- If nobody searches for what you sell, this is the wrong channel and we will say so.
Asked before most projects.
What is generative engine optimisation?
Making your site legible to AI assistants so they surface and cite you when someone asks them a question your business answers. In practice it is mostly ordinary search optimisation aimed at the queries a machine issues rather than the ones a person types.
How do I get my business shown in ChatGPT?
Rank for the searches it runs on the user’s behalf, and make sure your own pages answer the follow-up questions it uses to check you — what you do, for whom, what it costs, and whether you are real.
How long does SEO take to work?
Months, not weeks, and longer on a new domain. Anyone promising faster is selling something else.
Is SEO still worth it if people use AI to search?
More so, not less. Assistants find their answers by searching — if you are invisible to search, you are invisible to them too.
The other three.
Most clients start with one and add the others once the first has paid for itself.
- Ongoing support — Someone to call.
- Automation & practical AI — Hours back.
- Custom software — When nothing off-the-shelf fits.
- Consultancy — deciding, not building.
- What a month costs — tiers, rates and what is included.
